The Game Awards is the video game industry equivalent of the Academy Awards. Started in 2014 by Geoff Keighley, a gaming journalist formerly of G4 TV, The Game Awards is an annual celebration of “creative and technical excellence in the global video game and eSports industry.” Getting a name, to say nothing of an actual award, is quite the honor.
Nintendo was up for several awards this year and was fortunate enough to come home with a couple of trophies. Here are the categories and the games that snagged the company some much-deserved love:
- Best Fighting Game— Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Best Strategy Game— Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- Best Family Game— Luigi’s Mansion 3
- Player’s Voice— Fire Emblem: Three Houses
It’s a great haul for Nintendo, especially considering how wonderful of a year it has been in terms of software from the developer. Being honored with these types of industry awards is always a nice bit of validation for, in many cases, months and even years of hard work. Congratulations to Nintendo!
