Nintendo continues to wind down its Wii U and 3DS game platforms, especially in regards to online connectivity. The eShops for both platforms recently stopped accepting funds via gift cards, with each marketplace set to close down permanently come late March of 2023. While that’s dreary news all on its own, the hits continue to come. Now, Nintendo has announced it will be disabling the Image Share capabilities of both Wii U and 3DS:
The Nintendo 3DS and Wii U Image Share services will be discontinued on 10/25/2022. Thank you for your support of these services.

Nintendo also announced that it will no longer be possible to connect Facebook and Twitter accounts to a Nintendo Account on either platform:
As of 10/25/2022, it will no longer be possible to sign in to a Nintendo Account using a Facebook or Twitter account. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Each of these closures will be happening on October 25. It’s sad to see Wii U and 3DS being relegated to moth balls. From a game preservation perspective, organizations like the Video Game History Foundation are not pleased with Nintendo opting to shutter the eShops on Wii U and 3DS. How do you feel about seeing these closures? Did you still use any of them yourself? Tell us in the comments!
