After months of a rumored third version of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company surprised fans today with the announcement of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for 3DS. The titles will feature an alternate story set in the Alola region, though further details remain slim at this time. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will release on November 17.
The 3DS will also receive an older pair of Pokémon games, as well! Pokémon Gold and Silver will both arrive on the system’s Virtual Console service. Like the recent re-release of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow, the titles will be compatible with Pokémon Bank, allowing Pokémon caught in these versions to be transferred to modern-day versions! The Time Capsule feature has been preserved as well, allowing trades between the previous Pokémon Virtual Console releases! The titles will arrive on Virtual Console September 22.
Finally, Nintendo’s newest platform was not forgotten as Pokkén Tournament DX was announced for Nintendo Switch. The title will be optimized for the Switch platform and will support two-player battles with one set of Joy-Con controllers. The game will also bring in fighters originally exclusive to the arcade version, including Scizor as well as brand-new fighters, such as Decidueye. The title will also launch on September 22.
Nintendo will provide more information on Pokkén Tournament DX and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon at E3! Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more as it develops!
