Despite the success of Switch, Nintendo’s commitment to the 3DS family has managed to continue seemingly unabated. The latest proof comes in the form of a new piece of Nintendo 2DS XL hardware, this time representing Link’s trusty shield. The Triforce and the shield’s edges appear to be embossed, making the whole thing look rather sleek!

A GameStop exclusive, the Hylian Shield Edition New Nintendo 2DS unit is yet another wonderful Zelda-themed piece of hardware for the 3DS family. The hardware is accompanied by a pre-installed version of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which received rave reviews when it was initially released back in 2013.
The Hylian Shield Edition New Nintendo 2DS will be available July 2 for $159.99.

Simply gorgeous piece of hardware. Well done.
I know stereoscopic, glasses-free 3D wasn’t the draw Nintendo had hoped for, the “2DS” consoles still feel lacking to me.
While 3D may be gimmicky, there are a few games I feel truly do benefit from the feature. “A Link Between Worlds” being one of them. Sure it’s still great without 3D turned on, but not having the ability to toggle it on/off feels restrictive. Sure 3D ups the price, but I’m glad the “Samus Returns” special edition was a New 3DS XL. That game benefited from 3D as well.
