Nintendo Switch has been an undeniable success since it launched back in 2017. By bringing a unique mix of both home and portable console to the market, Nintendo has redefined what a video game system can be in the 21st century. With one of the greatest software lineups possibly ever assembled (and still growing), Switch satisfies so many different itches simultaneously it should be categorized as a skin ointment, too.
So, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that the console was the best-selling gaming hardware of 2019. What’s more, the Switch Pro Controller was also the dominant accessory sold in 2019. With hits like Luigi’s Mansion 3 among half of the top 20 highest-selling games of the past year, it was a wonderful stretch for Nintendo— but will it continue into 2020? Both Sony and Microsoft will be launching new consoles in 2020, so it will be interesting to see if Nintendo can keep up this epic pace. With rumors of a “Switch Pro” swirling, or rather a more powerful version of the hardware, it’s anyone’s guess what the NDP Group will be reporting this time in 2021.
