The latest firmware update to Nintendo Switch has arrived in the form of software version 14.1.0. Although Nintendo’s system updates are often known for improving system stability, in this case an entirely new feature has been added to the console. Located within the Notifications options under System Settings, users can now toggle Platinum Point Notification Settings.
Here’s Nintendo’s official breakdown of how this new feature works, straight from the patch notes:
Ver. 14.1.0 (Released April 4, 2022)
“Platinum Point Notification Settings” has been added under Notifications in System Settings.
- Unclaimed Platinum Points earned from completing Nintendo Switch Online missions on your Nintendo Switch system will generate notifications.
- Nintendo Switch Online missions and rewards are not available in some countries and regions. For more information, see How to Complete a My Nintendo Mission.
- Setting these notifications to OFF will hide the notification sent when there are unclaimed Platinum Points.
Nintendo added missions to its Nintendo Switch Online service in a recent firmware update. Completion of these missions provides subscribers with Platinum Points which can then be used to claim a myriad of awards, including unique player icons. These icons come from a range of different Nintendo games and series, including Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and more. As part of the Version 14.1.0 update, Nintendo has provided an array of new icons to take advantage of:
#NintendoSwitchOnline members can now redeem their #MyNintendo Platinum Points to collect custom icons from #AnimalCrossing: New Horizons and #Splatoon 2, available until 5/1 at 6PM PT.

Although it has been more than five years since the launch of its hybrid console, that hasn’t stopped Nintendo from continuing to tinker with the user experience on Switch. Nintendo has been actively adding fresh features to the console, including the incorporation of missions and the new groups functionality that allows players to organize their software into custom files of their choosing. The inclusion of Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis games in the Expansion Pack tier of Nintendo Switch Online has also helped breathe new life into the hardware. Now, it will be even more convenient for users to keep track of the Platinum Points they’ve accumulated and apply them to rewards like the limited edition player icons mentioned above.
System update 14.1.0 is available to download now for all Nintendo Switch users.
