Well, this was unexpected: Nintendo made a hardware announcement, but it’s not Switch 2, nor any other sort of gaming console. Instead, the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo was revealed to the world. And what’s more, it’s actually available for purchase right now for $99.99. Give it a look in this trailer:
The clock features motion sensor technology that responds to and tracks your movements. This allows users to not only put the alarm to sleep with a gesture, but it will also shut off once you rise from bed. There are 35 different scenes to choose from, including ones from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Pikmin 4, and more. Depending on what scene you pick, you’ll be woken up with different sounds and music to enjoy.
Here’s a bit more about Alarmo straight from Nintendo:
That’s not all – you can also check Records*** to see how much you move around in your sleep, set an hourly chime themed to your chosen title, and change between Steady or Gentle Modes for your morning alarm. In Steady Mode, the alarm will gradually get more intense the longer you stay in bed, whereas Gentle Mode offers a more consistent intensity level. There’s also Button Mode for a more traditional, tactile “hit the snooze button” alarm clock experience. You can even use sleepy sounds to wind down with soothing music and sounds at your set bedtime.
Alarmo is available now and be ordered directly via the Nintendo website. You can get hold of one for yourself right here. Although it might not be the announcement people have been waiting for, this is nonetheless a very cool addition to any Nintendo fan’s home.
A $100 alarm clock is a little far-fetched for me…
What I’d really like to hear is from someone who’s used this over several months: how it does or doesn’t fit into their routine, and what they do and don’t like about it.
To Tyler’s point, a hundred-dollar alarm clock sounds nutty. Still, I value a good sleep cycle as much as anyone and I’m fine with getting what I pay for in a practical object I’d use every day. (My clacky, spendy keyboard agrees. ;^)
I have frequent insomnia, so if anybody is willing to try anything, I suppose it’s me. That said, my best nights of sleep and my most-recharged mornings have been rare alarm-free situations, so I really would want to know what I’m stepping into here.
