This summer, Nintendo will release the first paid DLC for Splatoon 2. Revealed during last week’s Nintendo Direct, the Octo Expansion will provide the game with more single player stages and, most notably, allow players to choose to play as Octolings for the very first time. Details are still slim, but Nintendo has let a couple additional details slip on Twitter.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Octolings will have no play differences from their Inkling opponents. The change is simply cosmetic, which will help maintain a balance to online matches. Still, the long-overdue addition will give competitive play even more diversity in character appearances, which will certainly be welcome! Splatoon 2’s Octoling icon Marina will play a role in the expansion’s narrative, alongside her partner-in-crime Pearl. Apparently, the duo will enable players to skip some of the expansion’s 80+ levels, though exactly what that entails remains unknown at this time.
A firm release date has not yet been announced, but rumors suggest that the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion DLC will release July 31. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information as it develops!
