Earlier this month, a list of games leaked that were supposedly seeing a discount across the board as Nintendo Select titles. This morning, Nintendo of America officially announced that the following titles will drop to an MSRP of $19.99 on March 11:
-
Animal Crossing: City Folk
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Mario Party: Island Tour
NES Remix Pack (Wii U)
Pikmin 3
Super Mario 3D World
Super Mario All-Stars
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Yoshi’s New Island
Steven Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s VP of Sales and Marketing also provided commentary on the price cut.
“Whether you just picked up a new Wii U or Nintendo 3DS system over the holiday season or want to expand your ever-growing game collection, Nintendo Selects are a great, affordable option. Not only are these games easier than ever to enjoy, but they also represent some of our highest-quality offerings in recent memory.”
While press release quotes are often exaggeratory, in this case, Moffitt is certainly telling the truth. There are some very strong gems in the new Nintendo Selects lineup for those that have yet to play them. At less than $20, Super Mario 3D World and Pikmin 3 are easily two of the Wii U’s best titles. There’s also Ocarina of Time, as well, which Nintendojo just elected the best Zelda game in the franchise.

Despite my better judgement, I’m very strangely tempted to pick up Super Mario All-Stars. And anyone who hasn’t gotten Pikmin 3 yet has no excuse not to now. It’s still one of my top three favorite Wii U games!
I’m definitely in for Ocarina. But I should finally take the opportunity to try Pikmin 3. I haven’t played a game in the franchise since the original, and I barely touched that.
Depending on what types of games you like, Pikmin 3 does have that magic Nintendo “wow” factor.
I’ll probably pick up another copy of Ocarina and perhaps another Pikmin 3. I’m also tempted to get Mario All-Stars even though I already have 2 versions of the SNES ones.
