For those who haven’t heard, indie-sensation Cuphead, formerly an Xbox One exclusive, will be coming to Nintendo Switch on April 18. StudioMDHR is ecstatic about the game heading to a Nintendo platform, with co-head Chad Moldenhauer stating “We’re beyond thrilled to be able to bring Cuphead to a brand new audience on Nintendo Switch. Playing the game on a console with such a big focus on local co-op really reminds Jared and I of our days gaming together as kids.” Indeed, this iteration of Cuphead will bring with it a bevy of updates and new features, which are detailed in the following Tweet:
Launching alongside our Nintendo Switch version of Cuphead on April 18th is our most exciting update ever! 11 localized languages, Mugman in single player, and so much more…available for free on all platforms!

The other co-head of StudioMDHR, Jared Moldenhauer (Chad’s brother, who was mentioned in the above quote) has gone on to say that he’d be more than willing to allow the character Cuphead to appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Here’s a quote straight from Jared:
“I’ve dreamed of Smash Bros. [Cuphead and Mugman] belong in there. So basically if fans want it, I couldn’t see how Nintendo wouldn’t want the fans to get what they wanted. I think they would because they support their fans a lot… So if Nintendo was keeping their fans happy, then I’d be more than pleased to make that the easiest transition. Just a piece of paper, we don’t need anything. You can have those characters make an appearance.”
Interesting phrasing there in that it really plants the ball firmly in Nintendo’s court. If StudioMDHR is fine with it, and assuming fans want it, well, why not offer Cuphead and Mugman as fighters in Ultimate? There’s no word on who any of the upcoming remaining DLC fighters are for Ultimate, but there would be more than a few happy faces if this particular duo made its way to the game.

Cuphead or Mugman as fighters in Ultimate? I’m as happy as the next Switch owner to be receiving this game. However it would feel strange having these characters as fighters while Shovel Knight is only an assist trophy.
