Nintendo has apparently changed its policy on repairing Joy-Cons that suffer from the dreaded ‘drift’ issue, with customers now able to get their controllers fixed without any questions asked.
The news comes from a leaked internal memo given to customer service teams which says that:
“customers will no longer be required to provide proof of purchase for Joy-Con repairs” and that “it is not necessary to confirm warranty status. If a customer requests a refund for a previously paid Joy-Con repair… confirm the prior repair and then issue a refund.”
Nintendo had previously acknowledged the issue and advised users to visit http://support.nintendo.com/ for assistance. To be clear, the leaked memo is from Nintendo of America and it’s unclear at this time whether this is the policy in other regions as well.
The ‘drift’ issue sees your movement in game begin to drift regardless of whether or not you are pointing the joystick in that direction. As someone who initially suffered the problem on launch, it’s good to see that Nintendo are actively addressing the issue (even if just through an internal memo) but it is somewhat late considering that this affected Joy-Cons at launch.
