To say that Tetris 99 has been a success story would be a massive understatement. The game, which launched out of the blue back in February, is a battle royale version of Tetris where 99 opponents face off until a final winner arises. In the months since Tetris 99 hit Nintendo Switch Online (members play free as part of their subscription!) fans have been flocking to the game in droves, with new DLC further fleshing out the experience as both an online and offline experience.
During today’s Nintendo Direct it was shown that even more DLC will be coming to Tetris 99 in the form of a new Version 2.0 update and paid content! Let’s break it all down:
- Version 2.0
- Tetris 99 Invictus: Play the elite of the Tetris 99 circuit— only those who have achieved Tetris Maximus status in-game are allowed entry
- New character icons will be available
- Daily Missions: In-game challenges that, when completed, reward players with tickets that can be exchanged for special themes
- Paid DLC (as part of the Big Block DLC expansion)
- 2 Player Share Battle: Two players can take on the computer using a pair of Joy-Con controllers
- Local Arena: Players can battle via local wireless
All of this will be available starting tomorrow, September 5. However, should anyone choose to wait until Friday, September 6, a physical version of Tetris 99 with the Big Block DLC and a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online will also be available!
