The first time I discovered Mario vs. Donkey Kong was in my freshman year of college. I was walking around my local GameStop and saw a copy sitting on a shelf and stopped in my tracks. I went through a period in high school where I didn’t pay as much attention to Nintendo Power as I should, so the game’s existence slipped right under my radard until that moment. After I’d bought it and gave it a play, it quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite games on Game Boy Advance. A puzzle-platformer, Mario vs. Donkey Kong marries Mario’s athleticism with some excellent head-scratching platforming challenges.
Now, Nintendo has opted to dust the game off and give it a delightful HD makeover, which you can see right here:
Spiffy, eh? Let’s see what Nintendo has to say about this remake:
Run, jump, and backflip your way to rescuing the stolen Mini-Mario toys in this puzzling twist on Mario action. Obstacles like spikes, moving platforms, and falling bricks stand in your way—put your brain to work and figure out the best way to reach the Mini-Marios. The rivalry that originally heated up on the Game Boy Advance system reignites on the Nintendo Switch system with newly-added co-op play and updated visuals.
The game comes to Nintendo Switch starting February 16, 2024. Did you play the original? Where do you rank Mario vs. Donkey Kong among Mario’s various spin-offs? Tell us below and on social media!
