Considering that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe launched back in April of 2017, it seemed a safe bet that the game was in its final form given that no further content drops have been offered for it ever since. Apparently, Nintendo was just taking its sweet time working on producing 48 (no, that’s not a typo) new tracks for the game. Word came during Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct broadcast that a new Booster Course Pass would be coming to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe starting March 18.
Here’s a roadmap of what’s to come:
As discussed in the trailer, the Booster Course Pass comprises 48 additional courses which will be released in intervals of sets of eight across the remainder of 2022 and all the way until the end of 2023. That’s a couple of years away, essentially, so Mario Kart fans will have a lot to look forward to over that stretch. The courses themselves are being pulled from the history of the Mario Kart series, so tracks will be coming from as far back as Super Mario Kart all the way through to Mario Kart Tour.
It’s been rumored that development of Mario Kart 9 is well underway, but getting virtually an entire game’s worth of new courses to play on in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will certainly help to make the wait much more tolerable. It’s worth noting that while the pass costs $24.99 as an outright purchase, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will get all of the content as part of the service. Exciting stuff, folks, but what say ye? Tell us down below!
