Klonoa is a 2.5D platforming series that made its debut back in 1998 on the original PlayStation with Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. It was director Hideo “Sakurazaki” Yoshizawa, the mastermind behind Ninja Gaiden on NES, who created the original Klonoa as a direct response to his displeasure with Super Mario 64 and its 3D game world. He thought his mix of 2D gameplay with 3D backgrounds and environments would provide a more approachable take on gaming in the third dimension.
Since then, there have been two Game Boy Advance installments, a PlayStation 2 sequel dubbed Klonoa 2 Lunatea’s Veil, and a remake of the original game for Nintendo Wii. It’s the Wii remake and the PS2 sequel that are our concern here, as it was announced during this past week’s Nintendo Direct presentation that Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series would be uniting those two games into a single package on Nintendo Switch.
Here’s a bit about the collection from Nintendo:
Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil are coming to Nintendo Switch! Run, jump and hover while firing Wind Bullets to grab and throw enemies across dreamy side-scrolling levels, using each level’s surroundings to your advantage. Take on great adventures when Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series launches on Nintendo Switch on July 8.
Note that bit at the end about the release date, which is July 8. Are you happy to see Klonoa get a new lease on life? Tell us down in the comments!
