It has been a very longstanding rumor that Microsoft and Nintendo, the two rights holders of GoldenEye 007, would be bringing the game to modern consoles. In the case of Microsoft, there was even an Xbox 360-era remake of the game that was allegedly built and scrapped back in the day. Rights issues and whatever other reasons that have prevented GoldenEye from coming to contemporary platforms seem to have been settled and now, the game will come to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers.
That’s not the only Nintendo 64 game on the horizon, however. Here’s a look at the other titles on the way:
If you didn’t feel like watching, here’s the list:
- GoldenEye 007
- Mario Party
- Mario Party 2
- Mario Party 3
- Mario Party 4
- 1080° Snowboarding
- Pilotwings 64
- Excitebike 64
- Pokémon Stadium
- Pokémon Stadium 2
It’s a solid set of additions, but hands-down GoldenEye has to be the marquee piece of software here. The game helped to revolutionize first-person shooters, especially on home consoles, and it went on to pave the way for the likes of Halo, Call of Duty, and many other series of today. It’s worth noting that while Xbox owners will also be getting the game, the online multiplayer will be exclusive to Switch. If you want to relive the glory days of the game’s beloved multiplayer mode, Nintendo’s console is the place to play.
