Well, that came out of nowhere. Actraiser remains one of the most beloved SNES-era video games ever made. Boasting a mix of platforming and simulation-style gameplay, it was a quirky combo of two genres unlikely to mix well together. Now, Square Enix has not only finally opted to rerelease the game on a Nintendo platform, but also go all-out with a full-blown remaster/remake dubbed Actraiser Renaissance.
Here’s the official synopsis of Actraiser Renaissance:
The classic Super NES game Actraiser returns on the Nintendo Switch system, now remastered in HD! In Actraiser Renaissance, strike down monsters in the side-scrolling action phase, Realm Acts, and cultivate lands in the world-building creation phase, Realm Management. Enjoy the much-loved original score and a rearranged soundtrack featuring new music. New stages and boss battles also await.
If there’s any complaint to be had, it’s the inability to switch back to the game’s original visuals. Not that these are bad, of course, but many a fan would have loved to see Actraiser in its unfettered glory. Ah well, at least the game is finally back—and available right now. Yes, you can head to the eShop this moment and download Actraiser Renaissance for yourself!
