Nintendo is one of the most renowned video game companies in the world, but that doesn’t mean they’re immune to making mistakes. Just look at the eShop on Switch— what happened to using a passcode to make purchases without having to input the account password every single time? Suffice to say, sometimes Nintendo gets it wrong, and in the case of the physical design of the Switch tablet itself, one of the most offensive flaws was the placement of its power port.
Located at the bottom of the system, plugging in at this point on the console’s body must have seemed logical to the design team considering how the unit rests inside of the Switch Dock. What about when it’s not docked, though? As many fans have come to find, playing in Tabletop Mode is great fun… until the power starts to run dry, that is. Then there aren’t many options for those who’d like to keep it free from the dock but also able to charge and be played at the same time. With the plug at the bottom, some have taken to some creative workarounds and third-party solutions in order to overcome Nintendo’s oversight.
