Ever since Splatoon arrived on Wii U back in 2015, gamers have thrilled to the adventures of the Inklings as they battle the Octoling menace. Since then, some fans have speculated that the Inklings themselves, however, might actually be that universe’s bad guys! Up until very recently, players could only choose one side in that conflict, but the recent Splatoon 2 expansion finally gave players the opportunity to take on the role of an Octoling.
To celebrate the one year anniversary of Splatoon 2, Nintendo will finally pit these two sides against one another in the Splatfest! While players can typically only choose to play as an Octoling in Splatoon 2 if they’ve downloaded and completed the Octo Expansion DLC, players that take the Octoling side will participate in the competition as their cephalopod of choice! Naturally, Pearl will be repping the Inkling team, while Marina will stand with Team Octoling!
The Splatfest will take place on a global scale, kicking off at 9 PM PT in North America. The competition will last 24 hours. To further celebrate the anniversary, My Nintendo is offering a handful of Splatoon-related rewards, including a Callie and Marie 3DS theme.
