Flipnote Studio 3D, the upgrade to the nontransferable DSiWare title, is coming to the 3DS eShop this summer for free. The new app will introduce a new two-part sharing method: you can share with friends for free using Flipnote Gallery: Friends, and you can share with the world for a small monthly fee using Flipnote Gallery: World (or use a free 30-day trial). The latter gallery will also host a DSi Library that will contain automatically transferred drawings from Flipnote Hatena, which will shut down on May 31. Players may opt-out of this automatic transfer on the Hatena website.
Although Flipnote Gallery: World will have community ratings and interactions that go hand-in-hand with rewards, I don’t believe Flipnote Gallery: World justifies a monthly fee. Look at Facebook. That thing is complicated and it doesn’t have a monthly fee. How will Flipnote Gallery: World justify its monthly fee?
