2019 sure is shaping up to be a big year for the Pokémon franchise. In just a few short weeks, the franchise’s first live-action film will debut when Pokémon: Detective Pikachu arrives in theaters. While that would be exciting enough on its own, Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is also headed to theaters in the very near future, and a brand-new trailer has been released in Japan.
Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution is a remake of Pokémon: The First Movie. At this point, we still don’t know just how faithfully the original film will be recreated, but the new trailer showcases a number of sequences that should look familiar to old-school fans.
Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will also have some neat tie-ins, as well. Starting tomorrow, those who purchase tickets early for the film in Japan will receive a download code for a special Mewtwo playable in Pokémon: Let’s Go. This particular Mewtwo will have a CP of 10,000. A promo card for the film has also been revealed, showcasing Mewtwo’s Charizard clone.
Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will arrive in Japanese theaters July 12. We still don’t have word of a release in other regions, but stay tuned to Nintendojo for more as it develops!
