In Sonic Mania, what’s old is new again and what’s new is based off of what’s old! Sega is making sure that the game pays homage to classic Sonic titles correctly then with the return of Bonus Stages, Special Stages, and Time Attack.
In Bonus Stages, the player must touch all of the blue spheres scattered about the stage — doing so will turn all of the spheres red and award the player with a gold medallion. Touching any red sphere will end the stage. Special Stages will have players attempting to take a Chaos Emerald from a UFO by grabbing blue spheres to increase their Mach speed while trying to stay in control and not fall off of the stage.
Time Attack keeps track of how long it takes a player to clear an area and those times are then sent to a global online leaderboard, where speedsters can attempt to beat either their own records or other players’.
