Nintendo recently updated its trademark for Animal Crossing in Japan, so gamers are naturally reviewing the documentation to glean any and all information they can. Considering the series’ recent history, it comes as no surprise that the update specifically mentions portable devices and mobile platforms, but this iteration also includes home consoles. Given the hybrid nature of Switch, this could be taken as an indicator of an eventual release on the platform.
Of course, this new filing could also prove to be nothing more than a part of the normal legal process of keeping everything up-to-date. Even if this proves to be the case, an eventual Switch iteration of the popular franchise is probably a given; after all, every Animal Crossing game has sold incredibly well, and Switch is breaking all kinds of sales records.
This trademark isn’t limited to just video games, though, as the update also includes numerous mentions of other things, including plushies, accessories, board games, and trading cards. In other words, while we don’t know exactly what is coming next when it comes to Animal Crossing, we can be rest assured that we’ll probably see something sooner or later.
