The massive success of Splatoon came as a big surprise to many. New franchises tend to be a tougher sell for audiences, but the game surpassed expectations in all three major regions, spurring Wii U console sales. Despite that success, merchandise featuring the Inklings has been a bit hard to come by. It looks like that could change soon, however. Fans looking to stay fresh should have some very cool options to check out in the very near future!
In North America, Jakks Pacific has released a number of figures in their World of Nintendo line. The toyline tends to primarily focus on Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda, but other Nintendo staples such as Samus Aran have received their own figures as well. At this weekend’s New York Toyfair 2016 convention, Scott Nietlich of Jakks Pacific indicated that Splatoon figures could also join the line. Nothing specific was revealed, but it seems like we should expect them sooner, rather than later!
Unsurprisingly, Japan also has a number of new items on the way, as well. T-Shirts promoting the game’s upcoming Splatfest will arrive this week, as a bit of a cross-promotion between Splatoon and the 20th anniversary of Pokémon Red and Green. The shirts will feature either a splatted Charizard or Venusaur and will be available at Pokémon Centers throughout Japan starting on February 20.
That’s not the only thing Japan is getting, however! A new manga comic series has been announced, which will run in Bessatsu CoroCoro Magazine! The manga will begin in April and run bi-monthly. No word yet on localization plans, but a translation (perhaps from from Viz Media) seems highly likely!
