Nintendo has a long history of porting games to different consoles while making significant tweaks and changes to warrant multiple versions, and judging from its latest trailer, Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World for 3DS looks like it won’t be bucking that trend.
As the name implies, the addition of Poochy will be a major impetus for changes in this portable take on the game. Of course, scanning the new Poochy Amiibo will make him rideable in the game, but that’s not the only role he’ll play. New Poochy Dash stages have been added that look like great opportunities to grab a bunch of beads; plus, those playing on Mellow Mode will have access to Poochy Pups, which point out the game’s many secrets to players. Poochy will also be showing up alongside Yoshi in the Scrapbook Theater, which features a collection of animated shorts featuring the pair.
Unrelated to Poochy is the inclusion of a new feature that lets you customize the look of your Yarn Yoshi and then share it with other players via StreetPass. Of course, the option to scan almost any Amiibo into the game to unlock designs based on that character is also making a comeback, so you’ll have plenty of options for how your Yoshi looks.
Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World comes out in Japan in January next year, while North American and European gamers have to wait until February 3.
