If there is any game that is almost universally lauded by longtime Pocket Monsters fans, it’s Pokémon Snap. Released in 1999 for Nintendo 64, Pokémon Snap set players to photograph the titular creatures while on a virtual safari. A sequel for the game has become something of a legend for years now, with fans constantly clamoring for more of Pokémon Snap’s unique, serene gameplay. During today’s Pokémon Presents broadcast, they finally got their wish.
Developed by Bandai Namco (the original was created by HAL Laboratory), this sequel is slated for release on Nintendo Switch. Sadly, there’s no launch date, but the game is already garnering a massive amount of hype. Here’s what The Pokémon Company has to say about the upcoming project:
In New Pokémon Snap, you’ll explore deserts, jungles, and more as you photograph fan-favorite Pokémon and discover never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviors.
This game will take Trainers on an adventure to unknown islands overflowing with natural sights such as jungles and beaches, where they can research various Pokémon in their natural habitats. They will take photos to make their very own in-game Pokémon Photodex, all while discovering new, never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviors.
Much excite, dear readers. Sadly, there has been no word on reviving Blockbuster Video in order to facilitate the printing kiosks that were created for the original game, but alas, this is better then nothing.
