Despite the many technical issues that have plagued the app, Pokémon Go has still managed to find incredible success. Developer Niantic continues to fine-tune it, however, with a number of updates. The latest should help to assuage a few recent complaints, at the very least!
The most important part of the new update is a replacement for the “Nearby” feature which was removed with the previous update. The app now has a feature called “Sightings,” which seems to work in a similar fashion. Niantic provided the following statement, which seems to indicate the new patch may be a temporary fix:
“We’re currently testing a variation of the ‘Nearby Pokémon’ feature with a subset of users. During this period you may see some variation in the nearby Pokémon UI.”
The update also comes with a new warning for those playing Pokémon Go while driving. The pop-up can be circumvented by passengers (or those claiming to be), but it is nice to see the developer taking steps to warn the community. The pop-up is reminiscent of the warnings that often accompanied games like Wii Sports, though this is a bit more dangerous than an airborne Wii Remote!
