In less than two weeks fans all over the world will be getting their hands on Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time. Alongside the launch of Nintendo GameCube games as part of that console’s Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack offerings, it will also be getting some platform-exclusive N64 functionality. Nintendo showed off the new features in a video:
In brief, N64 will be incorporating the following features into the app:
- Rewind
- CRT Filter
- View/Change Controls
Alas, while all of these are welcome additions, particularly the ability to remap buttons (which should have been an option from day one, frankly), the devil is in the details, it seems—they’re only available to Switch 2 users. Those with the original Switch will be out of luck. It’s a lame move, but then Nintendo is likely wanting to do everything it can to get users over from the first Switch to its successor, including locking basic quality of life improvements to the new hardware.
In any event, it will be a welcome change once the update hits.
