At this year’s E3, Nintendo showcased The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In order to prevent spoilers, the company removed most of the game’s NPCs, leaving the title’s massive version of Hyrule to seem a bit lonely. One exception, however, were the Koroks, a species that originally appeared in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Today, Nintendo released a short new video from Breath of the Wild, focused on the Koroks.
The presence of the Koroks certainly adds to the mystery of the game’s place in the Zelda timeline. The creatures evolved from the Kokiri tribe, at some point after the events of Ocarina of Time. This certainly lends credence to the theory that the title could be a prequel to either Wind Waker or Twilight Princess!
It will be interesting to see if the Goron or Zora tribes will also appear in the upcoming title. Given their prominence in the Zelda canon, it seems highly likely! Hopefully fans won’t have to wait until March to find out for sure.
