Nintendo’s history with sports games has been spotty, to say the least. While the company made an earnest effort on the GameCube and Wii to attract publishers like EA and Take-Two, the Wii U had a hard enough time getting any third party titles, let alone sports games. The Switch is already off to a much more comfortable start, and it looks like it could have the potential to succeed where those other systems failed.

NBA 2K18 was one of the first titles announced on Switch, and a hopeful sign of changing times for Nintendo. Today, the game received an official release date, as well as additional details. The Switch version will launch alongside all other platforms, and there will be multiple editions available. The Legend Edition will be accompanied by a Shaq poster, five Panini trading cards, 100,000 in in-game currency, 20 weekly MyTEAM packs and exclusive Shaq items in-game. The Gold Edition takes it a step further, including the poster, a lenticular, ten trading cards, 250,000 in in-game currency, early tip-off access and 40 MyTEAM packs. These versions will retail for $99.99 and $149.99, respectively. Of course, a version without all the extras will also be available.

If that’s not enough Shaq action, Shaq-Fu: The Legend Reborn will also arrive on Switch in the near future. The crowd-funded follow-up to the bizarre ’90s platformer should intrigue fans of the original, or just those looking for something a little out there. Either way, it’s a good time to be a fan of one of the greatest basketball players of all-time.
