After a number of missed release dates, it appears Mighty No. 9 will finally arrive early this summer. The Mega Man-inspired title from Keiji Inafune has apparently gone gold, and will release on Wii U and other consoles on June 24. Handheld versions of the title do not have a confirmed release date at this time, however.

Inafune released a statement earlier today, confirming the new release date, while also promising that there will be no further delays for the title. We’ve included a snippet from the release below.

We have now confirmed the following release dates for Mighty No. 9: June 21st 2016 (North America & Asia) and June 24th 2016 (World Wide). We understand that as a result of the various delays we have disappointed and let down our fans, but we are happy to finally be able to deliver the game to everyone who brought us this far.

With the game having “gone gold” we are in the last final stages of being able to deliver it into your hands, be that via your favorite retail outlet, or via digital channels.

Therefore the release date we are announcing is set in stone and there will be no further delays for the game.

Portable versions for PlayStation® Vita and Nintendo 3DS ™ will follow at a later point.

After all this time, Mighty No. 9 will have quite a bit to prove. When the title was first announced and taken to Kickstarter, fans quickly embraced it. The absence of a true, new Mega Man title from Capcom had left old-school fans hungry for something more than a rerelease, and Mighty No. 9 seemed like the perfect title to fill that void. Unfortunately, numerous delays and questionable decisions have left some Kickstarter backers understandably jaded. Hopefully the game will prove well worth the wait.

Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more information on Mighty No. 9 as the game’s release date approaches.
