A lot has changed since the release of Pokémon Yellow. In the near 20 years since, the Pokémon world has seen plenty of additions to the core gameplay of the series, including Mega Evolutions. Introduced in 2013’s Pokémon X and Y, Mega Evolutions gave a new look to some of the franchise’s most familiar faces. According to the latest issue of CoroCoro, Mega Evolutions will return in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!

While Mega Evolutions were included in Pokémon Sun and Moon, the confirmation of their return is a notable one, in part because there are a lot of intricacies about Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! that we don’t know yet. The title will exclusively feature the original 151 Pokémon, as well as their Alolan counterparts. We don’t yet know if Pokémon that have gone through type changes will have those reflected in the game, however. For example, Clefairy was originally a Normal type Pokémon. In X and Y, the Pokémon was changed to the newly introduced Fairy type. Fairy type is one of three Pokémon types introduced since Yellow that were brought in to help balance out the gameplay. The presence of Mega Evolutions suggests that, despite the fact that Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! are a throwback to the franchise’s earliest days, The Pokémon Company is keeping at least some of the gameplay changes made to the series over the years.

CoroCoro also confirmed the return of the infamous duo of Jessie and James. Despite being a staple in the anime since the second episode of the series, Jessie and James haven’t appeared in a game since 2000’s Pokémon Puzzle League. Once again, the two will be accompanied by Koffing, Ekans and Meowth, with the latter Pokémon following Jessie and James around outside a Poké Ball.
