Whether you’re playing on Wii U or Switch, one undeniable fact remains: Mario Kart 8 is a terrific racing game. Gamers across America seem to agree as the title is now, officially, the second best-selling racing game of all-time in the region!
The news comes courtesy of Mat Piscatella of the NPD Group, who added an interesting note: the only racing game that has managed to outsell Mario Kart 8 is Mario Kart Wii. That particular game came out fairly early in the Wii’s lifespan, on a console that sold incredibly well. While Switch sales are currently very impressive, Wii U’s sales were less than stellar, so it’s fairly unsurprising that the Wii version is still the one to beat.
Since the title arrived on Switch, Nintendo has continued to offer periodic updates to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, including new racers and even new control styles. With so many Switch owners still purchasing the title, hopefully Nintendo will continue to build on the game.
