After last week’s Nintendo Switch Presentation, the company quietly announced Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, an enhanced version of the Wii U racer. The title will feature a number of new modes and enhancements, but apparently new tracks will not be a part of the package.
Fans that watched Thursday’s presentation may recall seeing an area based on Splatoon‘s Urchin Underpass. That area will apparently appear exclusively in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe‘s new battle mode, and not as a full track. Battle Mode will also feature Battle Stadium (another brand-new map), and two returning maps: SNES Battle Course 1 and Luigi’s Mansion, which originally appeared in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
While many fans will no doubt feel some disappointment, the title still features a strong amount of content, particularly for players that may have missed the Wii U version. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe features all of the game’s previous DLC, which gives the game 48 total tracks. With five new racers, new Kart customization options and a classic battle mode, Deluxe will still offer the quintessential Mario Kart 8 experience.

Absolutely! The serious lack of battle maps in MK8 was a major disappointment. Also, from the MK8D video, it also appears they’re bringing back dual-items (to be able to hold one attack item while picking up another). This was also eliminated in the original. If Nintendo has fixed MK8’s short-comings, I would gladly pick up a new copy.
