Game sales data for 2019 in the UK has been reported by gamesindustry.biz, revealing the top ten best-selling physical games of the year.
In order of the number of copies sold:
- FIFA 20 – 1,502,191
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare – 1,192,211
- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe – 465,062
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – 438,465
- Red Dead Redemption 2 – 306,392
- FIFA 19 – 278,417
- Pokemon Sword – 273,991
- Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled – 267,285
- Grand Theft Auto V – 247,357
- Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 – 237,226
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe takes home the honor of being the top-selling physical Switch game of the year, with Pokémon Sword being the other Switch-exclusive title to grace the list. Combined with Pokémon Shield, the latest Pokémon games together sold just under 430,000 copies.
What makes Mario Kart’s success here so interesting is that not only did it manage to rank third on the list despite launching back in in 2017, but in 2019 the game sold more copies than it did in 2018 (when it sold 458,000 copies).
It makes one wonder if the launch of Mario Kart Tour on mobile in 2019 fueled any of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe‘s sales in the year.
