Matthew Shell, the man who worked on the Star Wars video game series for nearly 2 decades, has sadly passed away. Many others who knew him took to social media to offer their condolences to Mr. Shell’s family and relatives. One of them is Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, who tweeted on X and shared a few words: “Matt was an incredible person with a huge heart- kind, loyal, hard-working, and always funny. He brought a smile to every meeting.” Mr. Shell was a veteran at LucasArts who worked as a senior product marketing manager for nearly 14 years. He first joined the game industry in 2002 when he joined SEGA of America as a project manager.

He was credited with several Sega games, such as Sonic Advance 2, Virtua Tennis, and Sega Rally Championship. Following his departure from SEGA of America, he joined one of LucasFilms’s division branches called LucasArts and stayed there until his departure in 2017. He was involved in marketing for the Star Wars video game series, such as Star Wars: Battlefront 2, LEGO Star Wars, and Star Wars: Empire at War.

Despite his past involvement with amazing games, he was a key part of bringing the Star Wars games series to life. His friends came forward on social media and claimed he was a true friend and a great colleague, and he would be missed. Our prayers go out to his family and friends who mourn his loss. Thank you, Mr. Shell, for playing a crucial part in bringing the Star Wars game to life.
