Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 launched earlier this year and was met with a lot of consternation from fans. While the selection of games was of course quite commendable, the execution of bringing them to modern hardware was less than optimal. Glitches abounded, framerate issues, and even things like old watermarks from the previous Metal Gear compilation left a bad taste in fans’ mouths. Although it was eventually patched, Master Collection Vol. 1 remains less than perfect, and Konami seems to be well aware of it.
Speaking on episode two of the Metal Gear – Production Hotline, series production producer Noriaki Okamura said that Konami plans on taking its time producing Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 (which is officially in developmnent) in order to ensure it comes out in the best possible shape. Okamura said the following:
We’re also worried about how Vol. 1 had a pretty rough launch, with all the issues, so we’re going to do everything we can not to repeat that, but we just have to ask for everyone to give us time.
Okamura also goes on to state that the selection of games this time around will require a bit more legwork to produce, as many of the games either don’t already have an HD remaster to work from, or are already in HD and will be massive undertakings to port. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the elephant in the room here, as that PlayStation 3-era title is likely going to be the biggest beast to manage. Not that it, or any other game, has been confirmed for Vol. 2. That said, it, Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and many other titles committed from Vol. 1 would be most welcome sights.
