The president of Koei Tecmo, Hisashi Koinuma, has spoken out about how Star Wars and Super Mario Bros. would be his dream choices for the basis of a new Warrriors game.
In an interview with Kotaku back in January, Koinuma explained how “I’ve been saying this since a long time ago, but Star Wars would be a really good fit”. He made it clear in the interview though that he was most interested in working with the IP rather than necessarily forcing it into a Warriors template, and that the most important thing would be whether any eventual game was fun and enjoyable for the players.
Meanwhile, Koinuma’s fascination with Mario naturally came from growing up with the series. Of course, with the recent Hyrule Warrriors now available on multiple Nintendo consoles, there is probably a higher chance of Koei Tecmo securing a deal to work with Nintendo to make a Warriors game for one of their franchises.
In any case, Koinuma finished out the interview commenting how “it’s better to have a very favorable collaborative relationship [between companies] as well, and nurture that”. With so many other cross-over titles being announced recently, it seems others in the industry would echo that sentiment.
