For all of you film aficionados out there who watched The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, you will already be well aware of how entertaining the story of the men who claimed the world-record high score for the arcade game Donkey Kong actually is. Drama, intrigue, and the titular tunes of Donkey Kong itself (well, more like jingles, really, but we won’t quibble) have caught the attention of Broadway, as the film will soon be adapted into a live-action musical!

No, it’s not April Fool’s Day again, and really who wouldn’t want to see the shenanigans of Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell in their respective pursuits of the ultimate high score? The director of The King of Kong, Seth Gordan, revealed the existence of the musical during the press junket for his new film Baywatch, stating that the characters and material are prime for a theatrical interpretation. It will apparently comprise approximately fifteen numbers, though whether or not current Donkey Kong record holder Wes Copeland will be incorporated is unknown.

Did word of this theatrical monkey business just barrel you over? Are you already sick of our simian-themed puns? Let us know in the comments!
