Abstraction Games’ new robot blasting platformer has been officially announced for Wii U. First confirmed in January, Kick & Fennick follows a young boy, Kick, who finds himself in a bright and colorful, yet dangerous world. Luckily, he is armed with a giant gun and has his trusty robot friend, Fennick, by his side, which is handy, given that the whole world is inhabited by killer robots.
Check out the trailer below.
Kick & Fennick features 45 levels of platforming action, jumping from collapsed skyscrapers to bounce pads and treadmills, all in a bid to reach the central tower in the heart of the city to retrieve a new life-saving energy core for Fennick.
But if you are thinking that this is simply another “jump around and shoot everything” type of affair, then think again. Abstraction Games want players to use their brains as well as brute force in order to traverse and survive the many perils that await, opening the game up to players of all ages with what they describe as its “smooth and easy-going” gameplay.
The key to all this is the unique play mechanics incorporated in Kicks oversized gun. As well as being his main weapon, Kick uses the recoil from his powerful gun to propel him higher and reach places that would normally be inaccessible. Knowing how and when to use this skill promises to challenge even the most hard core platform fans, whilst still being accessible to beginners and non-gamers alike.
The game also boasts beautiful yet delightfully chaotic level design, highly detailed animation, and a unique cinematic camera that dynamically follows all of the action.
The game will be available to download from the eShop sometime this spring, and if the cutesy, Pixar-esque trailer is anything to go by, then we may be in for something a little special here. Keep it locked to Nintendojo for any future Kick & Fennick updates.

This looks very interesting. I’m going to keep an eye on this one, and fingers crossed it’s not cancelled for Wii U. I haven’t seen much on the eShop lately that I want to buy right away for Wii U, but this looks good. Last game I downloaded was the F-Zero clone Fast Racing Neo, which by the way is a great game with unique aspects to it. Looking forward to StarFox Zero for sure. Nothing besides that in the next couple of months looks promising, but that’s fine. I still have a few games to buy in my backlog. Yoshi’s Wooly World and Captain Toad. Still haven’t picked those up!
CAPTAIN TOAD IS AMAZING.
I did play it somewhere, and I thought it was great. Can’t wait to get it! I ALMOST picked up Twilight Princess HD yesterday on impulse, but passed on it. It’s cheaper through amazon with prime, but I want a game I haven’t already played first. Like Captain Toad and Yoshi’s for Wii U. Being a fan of Nintendo games, I try to get them first before games for other systems. Please, oh PLEASE let the NX be good!!! A return to form!!
I’ll second Robert’s recommendation of Captain Toad. Fantastic game. Simple and charming. I really loved that game.
