The question on the minds of countless Nintendo fans the world over has likely been, “who is going to take the place of Charles Martinet as the voice of Super Mario?” The voice actor who has famously played the role for over 20 years recently shocked everyone by announcing his retirement, but no word on his replacement was given at the time. However, those who listened closely to the voice work in both Super Mario Bros. Wonder and WarioWare: Move It! could tell that someone other than Martinet was voicing the titular roles.
Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!

If Afghani’s name is familiar, it’s likely because he has handled other voice acting roles in the industry prior to landing Mario, including Arnold in Genshin Impact. Whether or not Afghani will be playing the role permanently moving forward is unknown (as well as who will be playing the role of Wario in the future), but if nothing else Afghani has at least this shot to shine as the character.
