While core gamers tend to move on from one hardware generation to the next, some of the more casual folks out there might be perfectly happy with their older systems. Case in point, the sort of folks who keep the Just Dance franchise a best seller year after year, who have also kept the Wii relevant.
Just Dance 2020 released in the UK last week and while it sold best on Switch, Nintendo also took the number two spot with the 12-year-old Wii accounting for the number two spot. As far as percentage of the total sales, Switch accounted for 55 percent, Wii 21 percent, PlayStation 4 14 percent, and Xbox One 10 percent.
We don’t know whether or not this measure of success is the same around the world, but it really isn’t all that surprising. Wii was an incredibly popular system and is notable for reaching out to more casual gamers in a way most consoles could only dream of, and that audience generally gobbles up the annual Just Dance releases.
