Despite its slow sales, indie developers continue to look to Wii U as a great place to bring their creations, and Thunder Lotus Games is the latest to hop on the band wagon with the upcoming console release of its amazingly beautiful Jotun. Having already been released and positively received on PC, the Norse-themed action adventure game will be getting an updated console release in the form of Jotun: Valhalla Edition, which adds a boss rush mode in addition to tougher versions of monsters for which the game is named in the new Valhalla Mode.
Jotun tells the story of Thora, a viking woman who is tasked with a second chance to earn her place in Valhalla after failing to live up to her people’s tradition of dying valiantly in battle. Her task is to track down and slay Jotun, massive elemental giants who dwarf Thora and serve as the game’s bosses. Smaller enemies and puzzles also stand between Thora and her goal, but the Jotun themselves are obviously the focus of the game, or at least the second major focus. The real heart of Jotun is its astounding hand animated visuals that make the whole thing look like something Don Bluth would have directed in the early ’80s.
Wii U owners will get to see whether or not the game manages to play as good as it looks when it’s released this summer on the Wii U eShop.
