If you play Animal Crossing: New Horizons you may have noticed that you can customize your DIY manhole covers. In the states, we usually only see the simpler variants of manhole covers, but in Japan, they can be quite decorative.

In 2019, Japan began the Poké Lid project which planned to design and install Pokémon-themed manhole covers across Japan. Currently, there are 148 Pokémon covers across the country. They feature various Pokémonsuch as Bronzong, Growlithe, Deerling, Entei, and Chimecho.

The Pokémon Company is also working on making each manhole cover a Pokémon GO PokéStop. An interesting detail is that the covers seem to have a thematic connection based on the region they are in. For example, all the covers in Kagoshima are Eevee and its evolutions.

If you are curious to see more, here is the Poké Lids website that features all the covers!
