Echo fighters have played an important role in growing the selection of playable characters in the Smash Bros. franchise. While it would be great if every single character had unique moves and custom animations, considering the sizable roster, that would probably be a rather unrealistic expectation for a game series that is already known for its long, challenging development cycles. That being said, series director Masahiro Sakurai insists the latest character revealed, Isabelle from the Animal Crossing games, is more than a mere echo of the Villager character.
Sakurai recently discussed the new fighter and revealed some differences with her series mate. The two characters do indeed have a number of shared moves, but Isabelle’s animations are entirely her own. Furthermore, the character proportions are also different with Isabelle sporting a somewhat slimmer design that was part of a slight change in the artistic direction of the series that started in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
The celebrated developer also took the chance to let gamers know that there will be fewer announcements in the last few months leading up to the game’s release. Hopefully this means there are still at least a few tricks up their sleeves.
