Comics are wonderful, but they sure aren’t very portable. In my youth, a whole lot of my comics were beat up or just plain ruined on family road trips, the bus to school and just about everywhere else I’d tote them. Today’s youth has it a little easier thanks to digital comics and apps like Comixology and Marvel Digital Unlimited. Unfortunately, Switch hasn’t had an option for comic readers, but that will all change next week with the debut of the InkyPen app!
InkyPen will allow subscribers to read comics published by IDW, Dark Horse, Valiant, Dynamite, Titan, Papercutz, Archie Comics and more. In addition, the company has signed on writers and artists from the webcomic and newspaper scene, as well. Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes, Stephen Pastis’ Pearls Before Swine and Daniel Lieske’s The Wormworld Saga are just a handful of the comics that the service will boast.
As a comic creator myself, it’s certainly exciting to see InkyPen draw a number of big names to their service. While some readers will likely lament the absence of Marvel and DC (both have subscription services of their own), readers young and old should be able to find a lot to love when the service goes live December 17.
