HORI has been doing right by Nintendo Switch fans with some really clever peripherals over the past few years. Arguably the most beloved was the introduction of its D-Pad Controller, which brought the nominal input to Switch for the first time and made its many platformers far more comfortable to play. Not long after for the launch of Daemon X Machina HORI released the Split Pad Pro. It’s ostensibly a Pro Controller split in half and slotted onto either side of the Switch console itself, making it every bit as fun and functional (if not more so) as the D-Pad Controller. Unfortunately, the relative scarcity of this game tie-in meant that not many fans were able to (ahem) get their hands on the device. Thankfully, that’s about to change.
Beef up your handheld experience with one of our NEW colors of the Split Pad Pro for Nintendo Switch.

HORI has revealed that the Split Pad Pro is making a return with three new colors to choose from: Transparent Black, Midnight Blue, and Volcanic Red. They’re looking pretty dang snazzy, but sadly they’re not yet available for purchase. One thing that distinguishes the Split Pad Pro (and the D-Pad Controller) from a stock pair of Joy-Con is that both halves must be slid onto the sides of a Switch in order to function—no wireless capabilities here, friends. Despite this limitation, the Split Pad Pro feels and plays great. Preorders are coming soon and we’ll be sure to tell you when they’re live! Until then, let us know if you’re excited down below and on social media.

When my joycons became drifty beyond recalibration’s help, I grabbed the original Daemon X Machina version and it’s been wonderful. My Switch now looks a bit crazy, but it still fits in the dock and the controls feel great. If anybody’s on the fence about picking up a set, I say go for it.
