While Pokémon Sword and Shield stole the spotlight at E3 this year, they’re not the only Pocket Monsters games that fans have to look forward to. As announced during the last Pokémon Direct broadcast, Pokémon Masters is a mobile free-to-start title that will be coming to iOS and Android this summer. The Pokémon Company recently overviewed what’s to be expected from the title when it finally launches via a brief video presentation, which you can see below:
Here are the highlights from the broadcast:
-
- Pasio is the new “artificial” island where Pokémon Masters is set.
- The Pokémon Masters League is a competition that everyone on the island is partaking in.
- “Sync Pairs” are the bond between trainer and Pocket Monster that exists on Pasio. Trainers bring a lone Pokémon with them on their journey.
- 3-on-3 team real-time battles rule the day here. The player recruits sync pairs to join him as he traverses Pasio.
- Trainers are pulled from all of the mainline Pokémon games. Tons of familiar faces will join in and can become partners with players.
One bit that might be a major point of concern for some fans is how The Pokémon Company and co-developer DeNA will be monetizing the title. Pokémon Masters is “free-to-start,” but what and how anything is paid for in-game is currently unknown. Still, this is an interesting turn for the franchise, as it’s a game where players are actively trying to collect trainers as opposed to the titular ‘mon themselves. Each trainer comes with a Pokémon in tow to use during battle and can also perform special tasks like healing everyone mid-battle. The summer 2019 launch window is what we’re actually in the middle of, so the game should be arriving soon!
