One of the pleasant surprises to come out of this generation of handhelds has been the BoxBoy franchise, platformers featuring a surprisingly loveable square and simple yet fun mechanics that has earned a following on the 3DS eShop. So far, two games have been released and both have been well received, and now Nintendo is hoping it’ll be able to repeat that success a third time.
Goodbye! BoxBoy! has been announced for 3DS in Japan with a February 3 release date and a price of 680 yen, which comes to about $6.00 USD currently. However, that’s just for the eShop download; the more physically inclined will have the option to pick a bundle that includes all three BoxBoy games, a soundtrack CD, and a BoxBoy Amiibo for 3456 yen, or a smidge over $30.00. The Amiibo will unlock some sort of additional content, of course, but nothing specific has been announced.
A brief video was also released showing off some of the new mechanics gamers will be able to utilize in the new adventure.
Nothing has been said regarding a release for Goodbye! BoxBoy! outside of Japan, but the the games definitely have their fans and they aren’t exactly big on text, so localization likely wouldn’t be a significant hurdle. Hopefully Nintendo will bring the Amiibo along as well!
