Everyone’s favorite secret agent from across the pond is nearing his return to the world of video games. GoldenEye 007, the classic Nintendo 64 first-person shooter, returns this week on January 27. You can see a lovely overview of the changes that await you in this trailer:
As the trailer points out, this version of GoldenEye boasts added widescreen support as well as online multiplayer. The online multiplayer is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of GoldenEye, so if you’ve been looking forward to reconnecting with friends and family in the game’s legendary deathmatches, Switch will be the best platform to play on. Do remember that an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription is needed in order to download and enjoy GoldenEye 007.
Do you suppose this makes it more or less likely that we might ever see that HD remaster/remake/whatever in an official capacity?
Both platforms are, in a sense, giving this version away (while also trying it to an ephemeral service) and I wonder if Nintendo and Microsoft really finally went through all this licensing hassle without an actual sales-figures-count-able product in the mix.
